Bots

In the Quake III Arena single player game, you’ll fight against your bot opponents in a ladder system in order to win the game. Here’s a rundown of the bots, which levels they appear in, and lots of inside info on what you can expect when you meet them in order to frag them into oblivion!

Anarki
Tier: 4
Levels: q3tourney4
Preferred weapon: rocket launcher

Description: Anarki can be best described as a smart-ass punk with a little too much sugar in his diet. Definitely one of the coolest looking bots, Anarki will tend to skate around on the middle level of q3tourney4. As for his preferred weapon, it’s most definitely the rocket launcher. When this isn’t available to him, he’ll choose the railgun next. Catching him by surprise around corners, or from either the upper or lower levels, seems to be the best way to beat him.

Angel
Tier: 3, 4
Levels: q3dm9, q3dm10
Preferred weapon: rocket launcher

Description: Like Anarki, Angel will go for the rocket launcher whenever she can. Unlike Anarki, however, Angel is a very cautious bot who will crouch her way around corners and inch up stairwells to get a peek at what might be lurking just out of sight. This makes her a little slower than the other bots and an easier target. She makes up for it by traveling through open areas when she can, thus minimizing her chances of getting caught in a bind.

Biker
Tier: 4
Levels: q3dm11
Preferred weapon: ???

Description: He’s a little slow and lumbering, but don’t let that fool you – Biker can still be a formidable opponent. He doesn’t seem to have a weapon preference or an area preference – he just goes where he can and picks up whatever he can find. He likes to draw a bead on his opponents before he fires his weapon, so that when he does, you can bet you’re going down. Like Angel, if you can surprise him, you’ll get the jump on him and take advantage of his obvious lack of exercise.

Bitterman
Tier: 2, 3
Levels: q3dm4, q3dm6, q3dm8
Preferred weapon: shotgun

Description: If you were a soldier in the Stroggos war, then Bitterman was one of your comrades. Bitterman is definitely a fan of the shotgun. It seems that even when bigger, better weapons are available, this guy goes for the boomstick anyway. He also tends to favor the powerups, so be sure and keep them away from him.

Bones
Tier: 6
Levels: q3dm16
Preferred weapon: shotgun

Description: Bones plays a defensive game; probably a wise choice given that he hasn’t got much there to frag, you know? On q3dm16, he will invariably go for the shotgun, completely ignoring the rocket launcher. When he does occasionally pick it up, he uses it only to rocket jump before switching back to the boomstick. His strategy is to lurk around corners and hit you while running away, and it’s surprisingly effective because he dodges behind walls so well. He also runs for health every chance he gets, continually keeping him charged up. Our recommendation? Use the rocket launcher for distance kills; if he gets anywhere near you with the shotgun, you’re just as much of a corpse as he is.

Cadavre
Tier: 6
Levels: q3dm16, q3dm18, q3dm19
Preferred weapon: ???

Description: Cadavre is Biker ala the undead. Like Biker, he doesn’t have much of a weapons preference, but he does have a slightly more aggressive playing style than his living cousin. His way consists of brute force — get in your face and frag you before you have a chance to say, “hey…” He trolls the lower levels of the maps he frequents, so look for him there.

Crash
Tier: 0
Levels: q3dm0
Preferred weapon: plasma gun

Description: Formerly Doom’s military instructor, Crash is your introduction to the world of Quake III: Arena. She appears on the introduction map and is a fairly low-skilled bot. She’ll give you a taste of the DM experience, mostly by being a target. Though she’ll go for the plasma gun, if you can get this away from her, you’ve got her beat. Alternatively, just grab the shotgun; because she’s the lowest bot in terms of skill, you should be able to knock her out with only a couple of shots if you can get close enough.

Daemia
Tier: 2, 3
Levels: q3dm5, q3dm6, q3dm7
Preferred weapon: shotgun

Description: Daemia is a more defensive player than she looks — she prefers to hunt stealthily through the maps, checking around corners and hiding behind walls to hear you coming. She uses the shotgun efficiently, wasting few shots and usually gunning you down with only two or, at most, three. And because the shotgun is a short range weapon, she’s learned to creep up on you and blast you away without you ever knowing she was there.
